On the 22nd of May, the Energy Now Congress 2019 took place in Eindhoven. This yearly congress aims at connecting professionals, researchers and students to accelerate the energy transition. The goal of Energy Now is to connect, inform and inspire those disciplines to initiate in the conversation about a sustainable future.
To commence this discussion, a series of interactive workshops, inspiring talks and a multidisciplinary exhibition floor provided the perfect foundation.
For this year’s edition of Energy Now, we decided to further improve the events stance on sustainability. In order to do so, we also teamed up with Groenbalans – a green consultancy company – to compensate for our emission footprint during the actual event. In their calculation, they estimated the CO2-footprint of the event, based on direct & indirect emissions but also food & water consumption, waste generation and employee transport. The calculation totalled a CO2-emission equivalent of about 7 tonnes.
Through groenbalans, the price of CO2-credits that would cover for this quantity of CO2 was invested in a hydro project in Himachal Pradesh, India. The project revolved around the generation of energy from falling water (so without a water dam) to reduce the necessity of fossil fuels as coal to generate the locally consumed electricity.
