Please be aware of this important update for modelling Absolute Contraction Approach. One of SBTi’s target-setting methods that may impact the minimum required ambition of your targets.
First step: Review and if you wish update your targets
However, we encourage you to review the ambition now possible under the updated Absolute Contraction Approach to assess whether you may wish to update your target ambition in line with the new method. You can do this using the latest version of the SBTi Target Setting Tool.
Second step: Revise and re-submitt the validation form prior to your contract start date
If, after reviewing the updated tool, you would like to revise your targets, please send an request to re-open your Validation Portal submission. You will then be able to update your targets directly within the form.
But if you are satisfied with your current submission and do not wish to make any changes, no action is required and your validation will proceed as normal.
What is the implemente upgrade?
What has changed is how near‑term ambition is calculated. Instead of requiring a fixed percentage reduction by 2030, reduction rates are now calculated dynamically based on a company’s base year and net‑zero target year. This results in emissions reductions being spread more evenly across the full pathway to 2050.
